The device on this tile was thought at first by Mr Heniker on the authority of a Caen antiquary to represent La Rogue Mesuillet, but in his second letter, he corrects this and says the above family bore azure, three bars argent whereas the tile is barre of six and represents the shield of the Lords of Villiers, Barons of Villiers sur Port and of Coutances. Another anonymous authority doubts both of the above renderings and calls the armorials thoses of Marche, seigneurs de Hennanville. This shield designated as above is not to be found in Nichols Roll, nor in the other Armorial rolls of England of early date.
