Other details:	Henniker assigns the bearing on this tile to Bray, and says the head of the family is in Dumoulin's list (History of Normandy) as having accompanied William the Conqueror. Also that they are found in the second volume of Dugdale's Baronage. In Burke's armoury, the colours are given as Argent on a chief gules a lion passant or. The descendants of William de Bray who was a witness in AD 1088 to the Charter of Battle Abbey bore Vaire argent and azure three bend gules. In Nicholas's Roll of Edward II the arms of Sir Robert Bray are `de veer, a iij bendes de goules. No mention of Bray is made in the other rolls.
