Very heavy. Glazed. Whitish yellow on red brown. Thickness 300 mm. Slanting sides, no holes on back. Duplicate tracing Renaud I 105. On this tile the arms of Lucy of Normandy are displayed. The colours are presumably gules and or and the reading will therefore be `Gules semee of crosses, crosslet two Lucis Laurient or. Such is the earliest rendering. There is a fitness and significance in the arms of Lucy and of Tregoz (see first tile) appearing in the Caen pavement seeing that Robert Tregoz who was minor when his father died and was made ward to Robert de Luci, subsequently married his daughter, had living of his lands in the 34 Henry II and died in the 10th of John. This bearing together with the one immediately preceding it (George or Rivieres) serves to strengthen the influence that the entire pavement was laid down in the reign of King John or only shortly before.
