Curious colouring on four tiles this pattern. The design grey stone colour - the ground a blue black lead colour. On one tile traces of yellow glaze but it does not seem to colour the grey like it does the ordinary pipe clay filling in others this pattern with different colouring, yellow and red etc. (Irene Hore). Oldhams Irish Tiles p 4 says "The prevailing colours in the Irish examples are bright red and yellow on purplish black and light pearl grey - occasionally of the same blackish colour and deep red.
