The arms of Evesham Abbey Worcester were Azure a chevron composed of a chain and couped between three mitres all argent, at the dexter end of the chain a padlock of the last. Tile depicting a shacklebolt serving as a chevron, probably to indicate that the name of the metred abbot was Shackenhurst or Shackleton or it may represent the arms of Evesham abbey viz as above written. On reverse page: At Hayles Abbey Gloucester Bazeley p 10. Heraldic bearings on bosses found. 6) A chain with a shackbolt at either end, between three mitres. The chain and shackbolt refer to a legend of Egwin third bishop of Worcester, the founder of Evesham Abbey in AD 702 and were used as arms by that Abbey.
