Other details:	Fragment of a tile in dark red clay now in York Museum. The letters are clearly intended for the name of the Priory which was spelt in various ways. The Priory was founded by Walter de Gaunt, Earl of Lincoln and its charter was confirmed by his son Gilbert temp Henry 2 whose arms were barry of six or an azure, over all or bend gules. The above coat has a label of three points, minus a bend and may be of the above date. Bridlington was one of the liberties of the see of Durham after the ancient palatinate of Northumberland extending from the Tyne to the Tees has been ceded to the Bishop of Durham in AD 1109 by Charter of Henry I.
