An early armorial tile now in the museum at York and there assigned to Kyme Baron Kyme of Lincolnshire though the ordinaries do not correspond with those given in the rolls of Henry 3 or of Edward 1 or 2 which read or; a chevron gules within a bordure sable and gules semee of cross crosslet, or chevron or; and azure semee of XXths or chevron or. Burke in the General Armoury, gives one coat for Kyme as or, two chevrons sable. Simon de Kyme gave lands to Salley Abbey York. The same tile occurs amongst the group fabricated at Repton kiln in Derbyshire and was formerly in Wirksworth Church. Mr. L Jewitt assigned the arms to Alfreston, near Belper, Derbyshire, viz azure two chevrons or, Alice one of the daughters and cohort of Thomas de Alfreston was married to William Charworth who thus became Charworth of Alfreston and gave lands to Beauchief tempo Edward I.
